Some companies can't opt out

Plcs, regulated firms, ineligible groups and companies whose 10% shareholders request one still need an audit.

Frequently Asked Questions

An independent examination of your annual financial statements, required by the Companies Act 2006. A registered auditor gives an opinion on whether the accounts show a true and fair view.

No. That year began on 01/04/2025, before the new limits took effect, so the old thresholds apply. For a March year end, the higher limits first apply to the year ending 31/03/2027.

Most SME audits run over 6 to 12 weeks from planning to sign-off. Fieldwork itself usually takes 1 to 3 weeks. Well-prepared records make the biggest difference.

Fees depend on size, complexity, sector and group structure. We give you a fixed-fee proposal after a free scoping call.

Yes. Members holding at least 10% of the shares can require one under s476, by written notice at least one month before the year end.

Often, yes. Group-level size tests and the conditions attached to the s479A parent-guarantee exemption mean many foreign-owned UK subsidiaries cannot rely on the small-company exemption.
